Just a few thoughts about Light, and Jesus' admonition to us to let our light shine.
When you walk into a dark room, you wouldn't think of flipping off a switch to turn off the dark. You can't turn dark off, because dark is the absence of light. You can curse the darkness, but it doesn't do any good.
To brighten a dark room, you turn on the light, and the light automatically chases away the dark, and everything that was hidden is brought to light. The dark is gone, and will remain gone until the light is extinguished.
It seems to me that Christians waste a lot of time rebuking the dark. I remember many a prayer meeting where we would be rebuking the darkness, the enemy, and any of his cohorts. From my perspective, where I am in the knowledge of His Kingdom and the way it works, it seems to be a waste of time.
In Luke 11:24-26, Jesus warns us that if a demon is removed but not replaced, that demon will return and bring seven more with it, so that "the last state is worse than the first".
So, we should declare light in the darkness. If we could discern what is lacking, we could bring the opposite, the light that would dispel the darkness. Take Jesus' model prayer where He says to declare "Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven". He says to proclaim His Kingdom, noting that He didn't say to rebuke darkness.
We know that we are filled with His Holy Spirit, that same Spirit that was present during Creation. We know that Jesus spoke to things, declaring the the state that should be, and they became as He spoke. We often say that He is our example, so lets use the example He set for us.
When we see unrest, uncertainty, anguish, we should declare His Peace. When we see unrighteous actions, no matter if in our lives, our families, or even our nation, we should declare His Righteousness. When we see sickness and pain, we should declare His Healing (by His stripes we were healed!) over the situation.
From the perspective of where I am right now, I am seeing more clearly the purpose that Jesus had in the model prayer He taught His disciples.
Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done! On Earth as it is in Heaven!
